Chickadee Newsletter Week of 11/5/2018

Hello Chickadee Families!

Fall is here and winter is fast approaching. I am not sure I am ready to be waking up to ice on my windshield, alas I have no say in the matter.
The children as also a little uncertain about the cold weather. Please make sure your child comes in with a hat, coat, and gloves/mittens. Little bodies get cold so easily. We are usually outside by 10am and our playground is still in the shade so it feels colder there.
Our classroom is beginning to look less like Halloween and more like fall. We are learning about leaves and fall colors. On Monday we practiced these with gluing tissue paper on armprint “trees.” Tuesday was lovely weather for our walk. We went exploring down the bikepath and found all sorts of leaves, sticks, and other interesting things that were used in our projects on Thursday and Friday. Wednesday the children danced and sang with Mr. Scott the music man. The children always love when he is here. Thursday the chickadees got to play and explore the leaves we found, and then everyone glued them onto a huge sheet of paper. We will see how long they stay on. Friday we painted with our fall colors and used the remaining nature objects to see how they made different patterns with the paint.
If you didn’t see Kristen’s email, everyone that was here Thursday received a vision screening, and there were no referrals needed school wide!
Next Monday we are closed for a teacher work day, and Tuesday November 13th is picture day.
Thursday the 15th  we are having a school wide Thanksgiving potluck lunch. Parents can sign up to bring a food item to share. Because our room is on the younger end, children will not be given potluck food unless their adults are present to serve them. The school lunch is set to start by 11:30, though we tend to eat a little earlier in our room. Children who do not normally attend are welcome to join us with their parents for our lunch.
We are closed Wednesday – Friday the 21, 22, and 23, for Thanksgiving. I updated the class November Calendar to reflect this. The first version I sent out had Thanksgiving on the wrong week. (Sorry about that!)
I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!
